SUBJECT: District Announces First Day Enrollment for 2009/10 School Year

Broward County Public Schools announced that 231,495 students attended District schools today, Monday, August 24. The District’s 2009/10 first-day enrollment count increased by 287 students, when compared to last year’s 231,208 first-day enrollment mark.

The student enrollment count includes all students who were in attendance at all schools, including charters and centers.

The increases in student enrollment were seen in high schools, centers and charter schools. High school enrollment increased by 1,625 students, centers attendance increased by 218 and students attending charter schools increased by 2,142 students. Enrollment in Pre-K, elementary and middle schools decreased by a combined total of 3,698 students (from 149,597 in 2008/09 to 145,899 in 2009/10).

The District anticipates a 2009/10 final student enrollment count of more than 252,500.
