WHAT:
“Watch Party” to view the live Web cast announcement of the 2009 Broad Prize for Urban Education winner. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, members of Congress and philanthropist Eli Broad will announce the winner of the largest education prize in the country. Superintendent James F. Notter and School Board Chair Maureen S. Dinnen along with other School Board members will be in attendance at the event in Washington, D.C. representing Broward County Public Schools, which is a finalist for the award.

Broward County Public Schools is one of five national finalists for The Broad (pronounced “brode”) Prize for Urban Education (www.broadprize.org), which honors urban American school districts that demonstrate the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement in the country while reducing income and ethnic achievement gaps. The winning district will receive $1 million in college scholarships for high school seniors, with each finalist district-receiving $250,000 in scholarships. Broward County was named a finalist for the second straight year. The event is sponsored by The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation (www.broadfoundation.org).
