  • PERSONAL: Married to John, resident of Broward County, mother of two daughters, both attend Broward County public schools.

    EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Emotionally Handicapped Education; also earned a Master of Science with a certificate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, Achieved and maintains "Certified" School Board Member status by the Florida School Boards Association

    COMMUNITY/SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT: Board Member: Children’s Services Council, the Cooperative Feeding Program Advisory Board, Young at Art, Visions of Images, and the Regional YMCA. Co-Chair of the Children’s Services Council Special Needs Advisory Committee, serves on the Board of the Broward Early Learning Coalition, member of the School Board Oversight Committee and One Community Partnership Governance Board, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Kiwanis, Mujeres Latinas, the Council for Exceptional Children, and the Broward League of Cities Education Advisory Committee. Recently appointed to the Management and Efficiency Study Committee of Broward; also sits on the School Board's Financial Advisory Committee, the Insurance Committee and represents the Board as the Federal Legislative Liaision and the NSBA/NAAN representative.

    PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: Former Teacher of Emotionally Handicapped/Severely Emotionally Disturbed Students – North County Elementary; Exceptional Student Education Chairperson, North County El; former Assistant Principal at Poinciana Park Elementary School in Liberty City, Florida; former City Commissioner for the City of Weston; Elected to the School Board of Broward County Seat 9 Countywide in 2004; chosen by her colleagues to serve as Chairperson in 2007; re-elected in 2008 to her second term as the Seat 9 Countywide School Board Member.
