What is a PMP?
Florida Law requires that a child who is not meeting the school district requirements for proficiency in reading and mathematics shall be covered by a Progress Monitoring Plan (PMP).
The PMP must be designed to assist the child or the school in meeting state and district expectations for proficiency. If the child has been identified as having a deficiency in reading, the K-12 comprehensive reading plan shall include instructional and support services to be provided to meet the desired levels of performance.
Is a PMP new to this school year?
No. PMP has been in place for several years. Prior to July 2006 the PMP was known as the Academic Improvement Plan (AIP).
What information does SBBC look at in determining if my child must be placed on a PMP?
The Core Curriculum Department has aligned the following data to determine if a child requires a PMP in alignment with state law.
PMP K-12 Mathematics Criteria (pdf)
PMP K-12 Reading Criteria (pdf)
How do I know if my child is being academically serviced by a PMP?
The parent/guardian will receive a letter of notification that their child is being placed on a PMP. The School Board of Broward County, Florida (SBBC) deadline for notifying parents of a child’s placement on a PMP during the first marking quarter is November 14, 2007 (same day report cards are distributed for most all schools). If a child is placed on a PMP after the first marking quarter the parents are to be notified immediately.
Does my child require a PMP if he/she is being academically serviced by an Individual Education Plan (IEP)?
Yes. SBBC Policy states that a child that meets the PMP requirements must be placed on one, even if they are being academically serviced by an IEP. This criteria is for all K-12 Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students that are working towards criteria for earning a standard diploma upon the end of high school.
Why is my child being placed on a PMP if he/she has already passed the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT)?
There are a group of children (in particular high school students) that will have passed the FCAT, but their score also met the requirement for placement on a PMP. The support provided through the PMP will assist these students in increasing their skill levels for further academic success.
Who do I contact for more information on the PMP?
