The Bilingual/ESOL Department provided a free opportunity for 300 newly arrived middle school students from across the District to experience one of the most fascinating productions, “The Nutcracker” at the Miramar Cultural Center on Friday December 15, 2017.

This event was funded by the Title III Immigrant Grant which provides funding to raise awareness and understanding about the North American culture for recently arrived students giving them an opportunity to become culturally immersed in their new country.

Here is feedback from Bonnie Maya, ESOL Teacher at Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach.

“I wanted to thank you and your team for providing the Nutcracker Ballet experience for some of our Immigrant students. They were very impressed and will always remember the experience. Many came up afterwards and specially thanked me for taking them. Others commented to their teachers upon arriving to their last period classroom for dismissal, that they really loved the theatre and the show. It was truly a special event. Again, thank you for all you do for our students.”
