Broward Virtual School students had the rare opportunity to become radio broadcast engineers on November 18, 2014 at WLYF Miami, 101.5 Lite FM.
The hands-on, interactive experience included a tour and discussion of what happens in the major departments, studio visit, and experiences in the roles of on-air program hosts, announcers, sportscasters and recording of a commercial.
The ‘behind the scenes’ tour was led by the Director of Programming and Operations, Rob Sidney.
“This introduction to all aspects of radio station programming and production puts theory into practice and demonstrates the vast careers related to technology and engineering,” said Christopher Gates, BVS Technology Specialist.
Committed to its ongoing effort to offer unique programs, Broward Virtual School introduced Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts as a part of its STEM Discovery Days.
“I'm excited that our students were able to see real-life engineering in action. This experience will undoubtedly enhance their readiness for a career in digital broadcasting,” said BVS Principal Christopher McGuire.
