​Broward County Public Schools Announces 2016/17 School Year Calendar

Mark your calendars! Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students will start the 2016/17 school year on Monday, August 22, 2016.  The School Board of Broward County, Florida, approved the 2016/17 school year calendar at its December 8, 2015, School Board meeting.

Congratulations to Linda Gancitano and Jennifer Hoover of Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood for being selected as the Heart-Healthy School Award recipients for the 2014/15 school year.
Cooper City Elementary Participates in the Miami Dolphins Academy Junior Training Camp
Third, fourth and fifth grade students from Cooper City Elementary will participate in the Miami Dolphins Junior Training Camp. Students will learn skills in both NFL-style offensive and defensive drills using the same equipment as the Miami Dolphins, including hurdles, knock-away dummies, ladders and halfback pads.
The NFL’s Super Bowl High School Honor Roll program honors McArthur High School with a commemorative golden football from former NFL Super Bowl winner and McArthur High School alumnus, Bryant McFadden.

Broward Schools’ Runcie named Superintendent Of The Year
At a meeting in Tampa Wednesday that included the Florida School Boards Association, Broward County’s Robert Runcie was named 2016 Florida’s Superintendent of the Year.
Broward district keeps later school start date
The Broward County School District next year will keep a calendar similar to its current one, with classes again starting Aug. 22. School board members on Tuesday formally approved that option over one that would have moved the start date up a week to Aug. 15. During a workshop in October, the majority of board members suggested they would support the later start date because of concerns over an $800,000 price tag and an earlier end to summer.
