Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) celebrated the 17th Annual Kids of Character and Staff of Character Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The event, sponsored by the Sun-Sentinel and Publix, honored 50 students and 20 staff recognized for their outstanding character throughout the year, including cooperation, responsibility, citizenship, kindness, respect, honesty, self-control and tolerance.

2017/18 School Choice Phase II Application Window Now Open
Broward County Public Schools is excited to announce that the School Choice Phase II application window for the 2017/18 school year takes place May 1, 2017 - September 1, 2017. During the School Choice Phase II application window, parents and guardians may submit applications for magnet programs and school reassignments at schools with available seats from the initial School Choice application window earlier this school year. BCPS Unveils New Supplier Diversity Outreach Program
Small, minority and women business owners interested in doing business with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) are invited to attend the New Supplier Diversity Outreach Program event on Monday, May 8, 2017, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Urban League of Broward County, 560 NW 27th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. Attendees will learn how to become a Small/Minority/Women Business Enterprise (S/M/WBE) certified vendor and how to provide products and services to BCPS. Crystal Lake Middle School Recycling Club Nets 900 Pounds of Paper in Six Weeks
The student Recycling Club at Crystal Lake Middle School collected more than 900 pounds of paper to expand the school’s recycling efforts thanks to a $5,000 Waste Management Think Green® Grant that was awarded by the city of Pompano Beach.

The Quest Center Students Create Magic Through Music, Drama and Expressive Arts

Schools compete in everything these days. From sports to music to dance to math, your local school probably has teams practicing for battle. The competitive spirit extends to science and engineering, too. Kids design robots, they fly drones; they build solar-powered racecars, all with their eyes on winning a contest somewhere.

Orange Brook Elementary goes out on a limb, holds election deciding fate of campus trees – Hollywood Gazette
Orange Brook Elementary School is about to get a new marquee near the front of the school. Principal Devon O’Neal wanted to remove or significantly cut back two trees so the new marquee could be installed. But students at Orange Brook believed it was wrong to remove or cut back the trees and protested the decision.

School-aged children living within Broward County are assigned to a school based on their primary residential address and grade level. This is the child’s boundary school. However, some families want to have options for their child’s education, which may include a choice other than their boundary school.
