BCPS and Community Partners Re-Sign the Collaborative Agreement on School Discipline
On October 5, 2016, the School Board of Broward County, Florida, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and its community partners signed for the second time, the Collaborative Agreement on School Discipline. This ceremonial signing took place at the Kathleen C. Wright Administrative Center during the October 5, School Board meeting, in an effort to renew the commitment to eliminating the schoolhouse to jailhouse pipeline.

Attucks Middle School Kicks off School is Cool
Attucks Middle School celebrated its School is Cool kickoff with a special PLEASE (People, Life & Experiential Awareness Skills Education) presentation by creator of the PLEASE Program Brian Haggert, who spoke to students about the importance of people skills, manners and communication skills.  Video

Environmental Author Visits South Plantation High School
Author Wenonah Hauter recently shared her experiences as an environmentalist with South Plantation High School Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration magnet students. The author read to students and discussed her latest book: Frackopoly: The Battle for the Future of Energy and the Environment. Video

BCPS Hosts 2nd Annual College Fair Students and Parents Can Learn More About College Options
The 2016 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) College Fair takes place on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, from 6 – 8 p.m. The second annual College Fair hosted by BCPS is free and open to the public.

This NSU alumnus earned his doctorate while saving a school
When Karlton Johnson arrived at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach as the school’s new principal, he faced a serious challenge. He had to transform Blanche Ely from top to bottom. Eight years later, the school’s overall graduation rate had climbed to 90%, the highest in its history.

Broward College Helps Math Teacher Fulfill Dream
Motivated and determined, Tikysha Parrott says her dreams of becoming an educator have come true. “It's what I wanted to do since I was a kid. I went home and played school to be a teacher,” said Parrot. She recently joined Broward County Public Schools as a fourth and fifth grade math teacher at Collins Elementary. Math is a subject which is in dire need of teachers.

Students looking to belong at McArthur High School have clubs for all interests
McArthur High School recently held its homecoming football game. Before the kickoff, many of the school’s clubs and organizations got together, had some fun and introduced themselves to students and staff.
