BCPS Congratulates Class of 2015 Gates Millennium Scholars

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to announce that eight students are members of the Class of 2015 Gates Millennium Scholars. These outstanding scholars are among the 1,000 winners throughout the country who have been named to this year’s Gates Millennium Scholarship Program. Each of the winning scholars are awarded a scholarship that can be used to pursue a degree in any undergraduate major and selected graduate programs at accredited colleges or universities.

Lanisha Barrett, Miramar High School
Jamal Capobianco, Blanche Ely High School
Deborah Gordon, College Academy at Broward College
Adrianna Jones, Blanche Ely High School
Kiani Lurry, Nova High School
Daniela Otero, Pompano Beach High School
Jamie Ramos, Broward Virtual School
Yumi Rivas, Cypress Bay High School
“We are extremely proud of the outstanding accomplishments of these scholars,” said Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “This is a tremendous opportunity for this generation of leaders to pursue their college and graduate school education.”
Gates Scholars receive full financial support for the cost of their college education as well as graduate school funding in the areas of mathematics, public health, science, library science, and engineering and computer science education.  Nationally, more than 50,000 students applied through a rigorous application process for the scholarship this year.
The scholarship program, which also provides recipients with leadership development opportunities, mentoring, academic and social support, is supported by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
