BCPS Partners With World-Renown Muralist to Launch Centennial Student Artwork Initiative

Monday, January 25, 2016
As Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) prepares to enter the next 100 years of educational excellence, the District announces the launch of a Centennial student artwork initiative to refresh and revitalize the look of the District.

The District has partnered with South Florida artist and world-renowned muralist Bill Saverese to work with schools to generate a collection of student artwork to serve as inspiration for a District mural and new District logo.

District schools may submit up to two student entries by February 19, 2016. All artwork will be showcased during a Centennial Art Exhibit, which takes place May 2 – 20, 2016. Art submissions will reflect students’ interpretation of the District’s vision statement: Educating Today’s Students to Succeed in Tomorrow’s World.

A New Jersey native, Bill Saverese earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Denver. He spent his senior year in Copenhagen, Denmark and spearheaded a group of Wall Street Art in 1996, sponsored by the European Union when Copenhagen was designated European Capital of Culture. He eventually moved with his family to South Florida and was named the Best Muralist of South Florida in 2010 by Sun Sentinel’s City Link after his eye-catching mural of legendary musician Jaco Pastorius in Oakland Park. Saverese’s latest work includes Reflections, an abstract aquatic-themed mural at Port Everglades.
