Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to be one of only 71 school districts across the country, and only five school districts in Florida, to be selected by the U.S. Department of Education for its School Climate Transformation Grant
. This grant will provide $3.7 million in funding to BCPS over five years (approximately $750,000 per year) to develop, enhance and/or expand programs that support improving behavioral outcomes and learning conditions for students.
BCPS will utilize the School Climate Transformation Grant
funding to increase the number of schools implementing the Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS) program, expand the use of PBIS electronic data collection systems at schools, provide comprehensive professional development and coaching for school staff, and connect students and families to appropriate community services. PBIS is a researched-based program that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive learning environments on school campuses.
“We are very excited about the increased opportunities this grant funding will create for our students and schools,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “Providing safe, secure and positive learning environments for our students is critical to their educational success and to their roles as responsible citizens of our community.”
