Broward Virtual School Student Raises More Than $20,000 For St. Luke’s Center

Wednesday, October 08, 2014
For the past two years, Broward Virtual School (BVS) student Adam Ramjattan has been the top fundraiser earning $18,000 for St. Luke’s Centers Annual Recovery Walk, and this year he adds a goal of $5,000 – to date raising over $20,000 in a three-year period. Broward Virtual School Ambassadors of Hope invited all BVS faculty, staff, students and families to join in supporting Adam’s team “Sole Brothers” at this year’s Recovery Walk, on October 18, 2014.

St. Luke’s Center is an award-winning alcohol and drug rehab facility offering specialized addiction treatment services for adults. It provides a residential treatment program and relapse prevention therapy. Each year, the walk helps to raise funds to support the centers outreach initiatives.

In a message to his peers and BVS families, Adam said, “You may think you can't do much to help. Neither can I. I'm in a wheelchair, but you'd be surprised how much we can do. I enjoy it because I think everyone deserves a second chance. Just because of a bump in the road, doesn't mean you can't stand back up. It's a great feeling to know I can help someone start over.”
“Adam is a remarkable young man. Despite the obstacles he faces, he perseveres, and maintains a 4.0 GPA as an 11th grade student at BVS, said Broward Virtual School Principal Christopher McGuire. “He’s an inspiration to us all. We’re all on Adam’s Team!”
