Miami Dolphins Kick-Off Reading for Kids at Lloyd Estates Elementary
Representatives from the Miami Dolphins, the Dolphins Cheerleaders and the team’s mascot will join students at Lloyd Estates Elementary on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, to help support childhood literacy and promote the importance of being physically active. The event takes place from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. The media is invited to attend this event.
The Miami Dolphins’ visit to Lloyd Estates Elementary is part of a partnership between Scholastic’s Read and Rise Book Fair
and the National Football League’s (NFL) Play 60
program, which is aimed at combatting childhood obesity. Thanks to a donation by the NFL, every student at Lloyd Estates Elementary will receive a $5 Reading Certificate that can be used to purchase a book during the week-long Scholastic Read and Rise Book Fair
at the school. The Miami Dolphins also generously donated 20 home game tickets to the school, which will be provided to students.
In addition to the kick-off assembly, a special Literacy Family Reading Night will be held at Lloyd Estates Elementary on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. This event provides parents and guardians with important strategies for developing their child’s love of reading. While parents are attending the Literacy event, their children will be able to take part in a fun, fitness activity. The evening will culminate with a Build-a-Book event, during which parents/guardians and students will design a book together. Each participating family will also receive a Family Literacy Kit provided by Scholastic and the NFL.
