The following are exciting events and activities taking place in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) on Friday, May 6, 2016.  Media are invited to cover these events.  

Broward County Superintendent’s Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet of the Year Ceremony

        When: Friday, May 6, 2016, 1 - 2 p.m.

The District’s Cadet of the Year is selected from the top JROTC cadets at each of the District’s traditional high schools. The cadets are evaluated on their academic performance, demonstrated leadership, community service     and school involvement, as well as their JROTC participation.  In addition to announcing the JROTC Cadet of the Year and honoring the top high school cadets, the top cadets from each middle school will also be recognized.

The Florida Panthers are teaming up with the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) to bring the NHL and NHLPA Future Goals program to schools across the region of South Florida. Florida Panthers Alumni and the Panthers Street Cats initiative will visit students at Driftwood Middle School who are actively using the Future Goals program. Students in the science classes will conduct Future Goals - Hockey Scholar Labs and activities, students in physical education classes will begin developing hockey skills through hands-on clinic drills, and those in elective classes will be learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by completing modules in Hockey Scholar on computers.

Dave Thomas Education Center is hosting its inaugural job fair for students. The event will include 13 local companies looking to hire potential employees. The goal of the job fair is to increase awareness about local employment opportunities for students.
