Broward Young Lawyers for Literacy, a group of volunteers from the Young Lawyers Section of the Broward County Bar Association, was founded with the goal of creating community support for literacy in early childhood. For the second consecutive year and as part of the Lawyers for Literacy Guest Reading Campaign, guest readers are visiting prekindergarten and kindergarten classrooms at several Broward County schools during the month of May. The reading sessions focus on the importance of literacy for all careers. Robot Rodeo with Pompano Beach High School and Bennett Elementary school
When: Monday, May 18, 2015, 9 a.m. – noon
Where: Pompano Beach High School, 600 NE 13th Avenue, Pompano Beach, FL 33060
Pompano Beach High School, has partnered with Bennett Elementary School to showcase students’ engineering skills at the Robot Rodeo. The high school and elementary school students will compete against each other in programming a variety of robots. Over 150 students are expected to participate. Piper High School and American Medical Response (AMR) Team Up For National Chest Compression Week
When: May 18, 2015, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: Piper High School, 8000 NW 44th Street, Sunrise, FL 33351
Piper High School; BCPS Career, Technical, Adult and Community Education; and AMR operations are partnering with Piper High’s Health Occupations Students of America program to bring a chest compression workshop to BCPS. This is an opportunity for Piper High students and staff to become certified in Chest Compression CPR. For more information, contact Piper High Assistant Principal Matt Dearen, at 754-322-1723.
