West Broward High School Student Organization of Anatomy and Physiology (S.O.A.P) will host its third annual DiaBEAT THIS!
Staff and Student Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the West Broward High Gymnasium, 500 NW 209th Avenue, Pembroke Pines.
With the goal of raising funds and bringing greater awareness to the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemics, organizers hope to surpass the $5,000 mark to benefit the American Diabetes Association and the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.
Western High School students and staff will join West Broward in this year’s tournament fundraiser event, which includes food, fun and performances by the cheering squads, dance teams, percussion group, West Broward’s award winning World Guard, the Early Childhood Learning Lab “Baby Bobcats,” and the American Sign Language students. An interpreter will be available for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Attendees are eligible for prizes, including two tickets to an upcoming concert by popular recording and performing artist Katy Perry, a selection of gift cards, movie passes, spa treatments and an autographed basketball by the University of Miami Hurricanes basketball team. The Miami HEAT Dancers will also make a special guest appearance during the DiaBEAT THIS! tournament event.
