West Broward High School’s Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (JROTC) cadets have lots of reasons to celebrate!  They took the overall top honors in the 2016 Broward County Drill Meet on March 12, 2016.  West Broward High placed first in 12 of the 17 different categories in the competition.
​Congratulations to nine Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) magnet schools and programs for earning the Magnet Schools of America 2016 National Merit Awards. Three schools received the Magnet Schools of Excellence award, and five schools and programs received the Magnet Schools of Distinction award from MSA, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.
Coral Cove Elementary celebrates its 10th anniversary marking 10 years of educational excellence and student success. This special event brings the school community together to celebrate and honor the past and future of Coral Cove Elementary.
More than 5,000 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students marched today, Friday, March 11, 2016, in the fourth annual Above the Influence March and Rally.
Tony Award-Winning Actor John Lloyd Young and International Opera Singer Carla Dirlikov visit Lake Forest Elementary and Walker Elementary to meet with teachers and principals, visit classes, share music techniques with students and film a special talent show video for the White House.
Four students from Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School will be surprised with scholarships of $3,125 each from the machining technology industry partner, Haas Automation, Inc.
A health literacy event for the community will include health presentations, screenings, hands-on fitness demonstrations, storytime, relay races, face painting, a bounce house and much more.
Northeast High was named the state’s first place winner in January, receiving $40,000 and becoming one of 51 schools (representing all 50 states and Washington, DC) chosen from 4,100 entries. The Northeast High Engineering Projects in Community Service student team is now vying to be one of five national winners to receive $120,000 in Samsung equipment and technology for their schools.
It’s a fun, educational competition that takes students on a virtual adventure! On Saturday, March 12, 2016, approximately 150 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students from 47 District schools will take part in a Minecraft: Minepocalypse challenge at Lauderhill 6 – 12, 1901 NW 49 Avenue, Lauderhill, FL 33313. The event takes place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.   
This annual joint effort created by Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and the United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse is designed to celebrate students in our community making the right decisions – to resist peer pressure and to avoid violence and drugs.
Congratulations to six exceptional school leaders for being named finalists for Broward County Public Schools 2016 Assistant Principal of the Year. These leaders are all recognized for providing inspiration to their schools and communities, and for their commitment to helping students succeed. 

Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie is proud to be the official host of the South Florida film premiere and book signing of “Most Likely to Succeed,” with co-author, filmmaker and Expert in Residence at Harvard University, Tony Wagner.
Student members of the Broward County Association of Student Councils presented a check during the School Board meeting on March 1, 2016, to the South Florida Honor Flight organization for $40,100. The funds, raised by Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students, will sponsor the veterans’ visit to Washington DC to see the national monuments in their honor.

17th Annual “Stars on Parade” Extravaganza
“Arts for the Future Scholarship” awards will be given to students during the event.
Two elementary school teachers, two middle school teachers and two high school teachers round out the six finalists vying to become Broward County Public Schools 2017 Teacher of the Year.

The BCPS Head Start/Early Head Start Program serves three- and four-year-old children, and offers a full school day of educational enrichment activities with research proven curriculum focusing on the development of the whole child.
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) “Conversation With The District” is a town-hall style series, providing an opportunity for parents, students, staff and community members to share input and thoughts with School Board members and the Superintendent about what the District is doing well or where improvements can be made.
Congratulations to the boys basketball teams from Blanche Ely High School, Coral Springs High School and Dillard High School for sweeping the state’s three largest classifications in the boys basketball 2016 state championships.
Broward County Public Schools participates in the Child Care Food Program (CCFP), a federally funded programwhich provides healthy meals and snacks in the child care setting.
​The 411 on Parent Engagement Conference

The BCPS Parent/Community Involvement Task Force and Office of Parent Engagement host the 411 on Parent Engagement Conference.
2016 Community Involvement Awards (CIA) – “Catch the Spirit,” honoring BCPS outstanding volunteers, mentors, business partners and parent involvement initiatives.

Broward County Public Schools Public Hearings on 2016/17 school attendance areas and school usage recommendations.
Cooper City High School, Cooper City and Feeding Children Everywhere are partnering together for the third year of the Cooper City High School Hunger Project. Volunteers will package 76,000 healthy meals that will be distributed to children across Broward County.
Deerfield Beach Elementary, which is listed on the National Register by the Florida Division of Historical Resources, is marking its 90th anniversary (1926 – 2016).
