A special check presentation ceremony is taking place to announce a $75,000 donation by The Tibor & Sheila Hollo Foundation that will be used to bring the unique HealthCorps program to Hallandale Magnet High School.
 
TEDxWestBrowardHigh is spearheaded by West Broward High master teacher and curator Horace Buddoo, along with West Broward High TED-ED Club members, teachers and students. Buddoo applied for a TEDx license as a way to promote a culture of collaboration and idea sharing for students.
 
Congratulations to Sawgrass Springs Middle School science teacher, Judy Bremner and Bair Middle School guidance counselor, Evy Lenoff for being nominated for the 2015/16 national LifeChanger of the Year award.
 

The Study focused on assessing the level of diversity in the District’s awarding of contracts and purchasing opportunities, particularly among small, minority and women-owned businesses. The Study represents the first phase in the District’s continuous improvement initiative.

To kick off the observance of Anti-Bullying Week, November 9-13, 2015, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is collaborating with Stand Strong USA, to host a powerful and motivational event aimed at saving lives and ending bullying. The event features celebrated worldwide motivational and inspirational keynote speaker Nick Vujicic from Australia.
 
More than 400 BCPS students will participate in this two-day conference that aims to motive youth to remain in school. The conference is hosted by the Travyon Martin Foundation.
 
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) “Conversation with the District” town hall meeting series takes place across the seven School Board member districts. Parents, students, District staff and community members are encouraged to provide input about what the District is doing well or where improvements can be made.
 
The BCPS College Fair provides opportunities for students and parents to learn about college options, academic programs, admission requirements and financial aid. College representatives from over 125 colleges and universities, and high school counselors will provide information and answer questions.
 
Piper High School along with Banyan Elementary School, Discovery Elementary School, Horizon Elementary School, Nob Hill Elementary School, Sandpiper Elementary School, Village Elementary School, Welleby Elementary School, Bair Middle School and Westpine Middle School are hosting the third annual Community Wellness Day with the Miami Dolphins.  The event takes place at Piper High School on Friday, October 23, 2015, from 9 a.m. – noon

Just Do It…I Did! Student Awards Program is a Districtwide celebration recognizing students with disabilities as part of Disability and History Awareness Weeks, which are the first two weeks of October.

Newsweek magazine’s list for 2015. This list, separate from the overall America’s Best High Schools Newsweek list, ranks schools that do an excellent job of preparing students for college while overcoming the obstacles of a low socioeconomic population.

Students from headstart through fifth grade, will act as tour guides and present projects that correlate with their STEM curriculum and integrate with literacy.

Creating a better understanding of similarities and differences among cultures, ethnicities and races will be the focus of the inaugural Diversity Conference presented by Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Diversity, Prevention & Intervention Department. “Equity in Action” takes place Friday and Saturday, October 23 – 24, 2015, at Nova Southeastern University, 3301 College Avenue, Davie, from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
 
The 15th annual Construction Career Days of South Florida takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 20 – 21, 2015, at Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, 4271 Davie Road, Davie. The two-day event kicks off with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, October 20, at 7:45 a.m.

Today, Friday, October 9, 2015, a power outage at Coral Springs High School resulted in students and staff being evacuated to the football field.

The 2015 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) College Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 20,2015, at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, from 5 - 8 p.m. The BCPS College Fair is free and open to the public.
