Message from Mrs. Hall
Happy Fall Yall!! It is already October and this year is flying by. These past few weeks have been extremely busy for your students and our staff. They have been working to finish up all the beginning of the year assessments, get reading groups up and running and getting to better know your children to ensure we are providing them with the highest quality education. We are seeing so many parents on a daily basis here for their child’s conference. Thank you for taking the time to come in and discuss his/her progress. This is a critical component in their success. If you have not had the opportunity to do this, please make sure to schedule this before the end of the first quarter.
October is such a busy month here at the school. We have several activities occurring throughout month. Coming up next week is the beginning of our PTA fall book fair. Students will have the opportunity to walk through the fair as a viewing day and they can also purchase that day. It will be open during the day throughout the entire week. On Thursday evening, we will be having our ice cream social, a little South Florida snow in the forecast and the book fair will be open as well. Please RSVP and come out to this event. At the end of the month we will be celebrating “Red Ribbon” week. Beginning on October 23rd-October 31st, students will have saying NO to drugs through many different activities. A list of the activities for each day will be coming home very soon. On the last day of October, the 31st, we will have our annual Halloween Parade. This is an opportunity for students to wear their costumes to school and parade around our car loop. Parents are encouraged and invited to attend this event. It will begin at 8:30 am. More information will be coming home soon about this event. Finally, PTA will be hosting a dance for ALL students on Halloween as well. This event occurs during our school day. Each grade level has an allotted time to come to the cafeteria and have a little fun. We hope you guys stay involved and participate in some or all of these events.
I want to take a minute to thank our PTA and our families for two wonderful fundraisers that occurred last month. First of all, the Popcorn fundraiser was a huge success bringing in one of the largest profits we have ever seen at Parkside. This allows our PTA to give more back to your children. Also, we had an evening event at 1000 degree pizza that raised about $350. We could not have done this without our families.
During the next few months, our School Advisory Council and School staff will be voting on our SMART School Enhancements. This process began in the Spring of last school year. As part of the SMART bond voted in a few years ago, each school receives $100,000 to use at its discretion to enhance the school. A few of the items that we are looking to consider are a new electric marquee, updated morning announcement equipment for our 5ht grade morning announcement crew, additional technology, and front office buzzer/camera system. Please look for more information coming home this month about the process.
We hope that you have had enjoyed the first few months here at Parkside and please remember, should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.
