Explore Technology is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) course based on the Code.org curriculum. Code.org is a non-profit that selected Broward County Public Schools for this unique partnership, which aims to increase students’ interest in computer science as a possible career path. Students have the opportunity with the full support of the teacher to develop programs using Scratch, the block code language developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). Scratch programming language provides all of the constructs inclusive in computer science while eliminating many of the frustrations and difficulties with a syntax-based language (C++). The programming concepts included as part of the Code.org curricula align with Common Core Mathematics and ISTE technology standards.
