Assistant Principal's Message
Mr. Ryan Atwood,
6th Grade Intern Principal
Greetings students, parents and community members, I hope you had a restful summer and are eager for the school year to begin. I am eager to begin my fifth year at Deerfield Beach Middle School. I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan where I attended Grand Valley State University. During the 2017-2018 school year, we made HUGE gains (66 points) in ELA, Math, Civics, Science and Middle School Acceleration. In fact, we had the third highest increase out of all Middle Schools in Broward County Public Schools and we are only 13 points away from a "B" grade. This year, we have our sites set on another successful year and we are committed to excellence day in and day out. In order to do this, we need the support of all stakeholders, including students, parents, families, teachers, faculty, staff, business partners and community members. Our IB Magnet Program is one of the top programs in the county and we offer a variety of athletic teams, clubs and programs that provide students with additional opportunities to get involved. Parents, I encourage you to join the PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) and SAC (School Advisory Council) this year! Meetings will be held in the Media Center the third Wednesday of every month, beginning in September. I look forward to a great year here at DBMS. Please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns.
Mr. Corey D Wilson,
7th Grade Intern Principal
Mr. Wilson has been involved in education since 1996. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He later pursued further studies and received his standard teaching certificate in Political Science, and he holds endorsements in Gifted Education and School Principal (All levels). Mr. Wilson earned his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University.
Mr. Wilson has taught on the Elementary and High School Levels, beginning his career in education at Deerfield Beach High, then moving to Tedder Elementary. He has served as an athletic coach for both football, and Varsity Track & Field. He has also held the role of a Behavior Specialist at Deerfield Park Elementary School.
Mr. Wilson’s first opportunity to serve as an assistant principal came in the summer of 2004 at Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. Middle School, he then moved on to Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Elementary, and Parkway Middle prior to arriving at Deerfield Beach Middle. During his tenure at Parkway Middle, he was nominated for the ACCLAIM Assistant Principal of the year award, and the school was recognized twice received as a Magnet School of Distinction in 2012 and 2016 from Magnet Schools of America.
Mr. Wilson believes with hard work and perseverance we can positively impact a child’s life in a special way. Keeping the learning atmosphere positive, maintaining open communication among staff, students and with parents are a few of the keys to success. He is looking forward to continuing to serve the DBMS Jr. Buck family for the 2018/2019 school year!
Mrs. Lisa Livingston, Assistant Principal
