    Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  We are really looking forward to a very exciting and productive school year.  I am so proud of our students and staff for all of their hard work last school year.  This year we are celebrating our students with our theme:  "How Sweet it is to work at a School full of Smarties!"

We are so pleased that you have taken the time to visit Sheridan Hills Elementary’s website. I hope you find it user-friendly and after scrolling through it, you will have a good idea of what we have to offer.

We take pride in nurturing strong community relationships.  Our welcoming atmosphere begins for all who enter our doors or ring our phones.  I truly believe that parent and community partnerships are an essential piece to the elementary level experience.

We are committed to academic excellence!  Together with our families and the community, the staff and students of Sheridan Hills work toward clearly-focused educational, personal, and social goals. When parents attend school functions, they demonstrate to their children that they value school and education. Attending events such as Open House, Tuesday Night Live, Family Fun Nights, Science Night, parent/teacher conferences, and coming to PTO meetings are all important ways that parents learn about what’s going on at school. Parents are informed about school policies, procedures, academics, and events through a variety of channels. The Back-to-School packet which goes home with the students on the first day of school contains information about school and district rules and procedures, behavior expectations, important forms that must be signed and returned, the school calendar, and other essential information. During the year parents stay informed through Parent Link phone messages, the classroom communicator from the teacher, the quarterly newsletter, our district website – BrowardSchools.com, SHE's Facebook Page - Facebook.com/SheridanHillsE our Twitter Page- Twitter.com/SheridanHillsE and this website – SheridanHillsElementary.com. I would love to meet each and every one of our parents so please come by and introduce yourself!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Sheridan Hills Elementary School!  Our staff is excited for this school year which will be full of exciting and meaningful learning for your children.  It is our goal to be the best part of your child’s day, a place where they can feel happy and engaged, and where parents feel welcome and involved.  I am always visiting classrooms and moving throughout the school, so feel free to introduce yourself.  I look forward to collaborating with this great community as we work together to make sure every student has another great year at Sheridan Hills Elementary School.

As a parent, you can help your child get the most out of the school year by encouraging him/her to put forth the best effort possible and strive to meet his/her teacher’s goals.  A positive parent-teacher relationship will show your child that school is a priority to you and that you respect the teacher and expect your child to do the same.  Feel free to contact your child’s teacher to discuss any ideas or concerns that you or your child may have.  Please continue to review the guidelines that are listed in the front of your child’s agenda book.  Following these procedures ensures a safe and orderly school, which in turn creates the optimal environment for great learning!

    Welcome Back

Welcome to a new school year! The beginning of each year is always such an exciting time not only for your child but also for each teacher, and administrator. We want every child, family, and school worker to know that their well-being and safety is the utmost important priority that we have! There are a few changes that will be implemented this year and I want to take this opportunity to share them with you.

    • As always, Sheridan Hills Elementary has our single point of entry in the office where the front door will remain locked at all times. When entering our school for a teacher meeting or an event it is imperative that you present your Picture ID EVERY time you come to the school.
    • All children are allowed on campus at 7:30 a.m. No child should be dropped off prior to 7:30 a.m. as there is no supervision before that time.
    • During drop off in the morning, the only entrance for your child will be the main gate between the main building and the primary building. The gate in the back of the school located on the east side of the school will be locked at all times.
    • During pick up in the afternoon, all students will remain inside the school. You must put the blue car tag on your rear-view mirror with your child’s name and grade clearly marked. We will call into the school and your child will exit to your car. If you have siblings, the older child will go to the younger child’s class and they will be picked up together.
    • School fire drills will continue as always, every month, and this year we will also be doing code red lockdown drills monthly. Whenever there is a drill performed, you will receive a parent link phone call informing you of such. That is one reason why it is very important we have your correct phone number on record in the front office. If your phone numbers change during the school year, it is very important to update the office ASAP.
    • All staff and students will be required to wear picture ID badges every day. The student badges will remain at school with their teacher at the end of the day to prevent the badges from getting lost.

    Happy Sun

Can you believe this school year is nearly over?  It seems like yesterday that we were greeting your children on the first day of school!  This year has been a very good one for all.  Students stayed focused all year and are leaving with new knowledge that will carry them through life.  To keep your child’s knowledge from slipping during the summer, please take advantage of the free resources available on your child’s single sign-on page (SSO.browardschools.com) and also Broward Schools’ technology playground (innovativelearning.browardschools.com/technology-playground/).  I challenge all students to continue to improve your literacy skills by reading each day during the Summer Break.

Ms. Ringler and I wish you a very happy and safe Summer Break!  If you ever want to drop by to talk with us or to just say hello, the office will be open during the summer, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Don’t forget to mark your calendars, the 2018-2019 school year begins on Wednesday, August 15th and our Meet & Greet the teacher is Tuesday, August 14th from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

    assessment

We are now well within the second half of the school year and are working hard to make this a very successful year for your child! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

The annual state assessments are just around the corner. Although our focus is always on teaching and learning—not the TESTS, the assessments are important snap-shots of where your child is in relationship to the grade level standards and benchmarks. Parents, please plan ahead so that your child is here to participate in these assessments.

We have many exciting events still to come for this school year. During the month of April, our chorus, art, and dance clubs will start meeting again as chorus and dance begin preparing for our end of the year Spring Show. Another favorite that is coming up is our Oratorical Contest in May. Be sure you practice with your child if they make the classroom eliminations. This event is an event that you won’t want to miss!

As always, please feel free to stop by the office to see me if you have any concerns, comments, or if you just want to say hello! We always welcome our parents and families of Sheridan Hills Elementary.
