Mr. Thompson's Friday Message

  • This is Mr. Thompson the proud Principal at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and this is your weekly update of events happening at MSD:

This message is for Friday, March 15, 2019:

Graduation for the Class of 2019 has changed. We will graduate on Sunday, June 2, 10am at the BBT Center in Sunrise.

Thanks to all the participants of the assembly today entitled: Black Excellence Showcase in honor of Black History Month. It was a great program. Come see it tonight at 6pm in the auditorium, cost is $7 at the door.

Thank you to the PTSO for their Annual Sweets and Treats event today. The faculty and staff loved it.

Tomorrow, Saturday, March 16th is Dance Marathon at MSD. This event is happening in the gym from 12-7 PM. Students will be fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. There will be food, dancing, DJ’s, games, and more. This is open to the community and you can register at the door the day of the event for $20. Last year MSD raised over $66,000 and we can’t wait to see what we reveal this year!

In an effort to improve System Practices, Broward County School District is conducting Parent and Student Surveys.  We value your opinion and ask that you please take time to complete this survey located on our school website at the top of School News. Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Your honest opinion is appreciated. Thank you for taking your time to complete the survey.

    Testing Update:

The FSA will be administered to 9th and 10th grade students this year.  The FSA is actually a 2 part test; one being writing, and one being reading, to be put together for one OVERALL test score.  These results can have an impact on graduation status and placement in reading courses for next year.

The writing portion of the FSA will be administered on April 3 (right after Spring Break) for all 9th and 10th graders. The FSA writing test, requires students to TYPE their response into the computer.  If you need help with typing skills, please visit for some help.

FSA and EOCs will be given through 6 half days.  Half Days are scheduled for May 1,2,3 and May 6,7.  Students NOT testing will be able to sign up for review sessions or other educational opportunities.

SAT/ACT Prep and EOC Test Reviews continued tomorrow, March 16. SAT/ACT starts at 8:30 and EOC Review at 9:30 in room 210.

Students and parents please remember that videotaping or photographing students on campus (without prior permission) is prohibited via the code of conduct; posting and/or sharing videos is not only inappropriate but also violates the privacy of our students. Please review this with your child.
