Mr. Thompson's Friday Message

  • This is Mr. Thompson the proud Principal at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and this is your weekly update of events happening at MSD:

This message is for Friday, January 18, 2019:

NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 21, in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, January 24. Superintendent Runcie, our school board member, along with other officials from the District will be in the MSD Auditorium at 6pm; to address any concerns from the community.

Thank you to all that were involved with the Love Garden on the corner of Holmberg and Pine Island. It is beautiful, thank you again.

We are PROUD to announce that the City of Parkland and MSD are collaborating to offer SAT ACT prep courses.  Will restart January 26.  Registration will start at 8:30am in room 210 and classes will be from 9-10:30am.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR. On February 7th we will be hosting a Spring College Fair from 6 to 8pm in the cafeteria. This event is open to anyone who wants to attend. From freshman to seniors everyone is invited. Schools like Cornell, UF, FSU, Notre Dame, University of Alabama, UCF, just to name a few will be in attendance. This is one event you do not want to miss!

There are 2 security apps that are available to report tips to law enforcement. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has created an app called “FortifyFL”. This app gives students, parents, and school staff an avenue to tips about possible school threats to FDLE investigators. Their app is called “FortifyFL”. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has created an app similar to FDLE called “SaferWatch.” Either app can be used to report tips.

Parents please continue to have conversations with your child regarding their wellbeing. The resiliency center is still open at Pine Trails Park from 12-7 M-F, and 12-5, S-S.  The MSD wellness center can be reached at 754-322-2266 during school hours. Please visit our website for available services under the “resources” tab.

Please be sure to get to class on time, this includes first period as well, must be in a seat by 7:40am, don’t get caught up in the detention cycle.

Parents, please help your child to remember their ID and Lanyard each and every day.

In order to ensure a great education for your child it is imperative that we have open lines of communication.  Whenever you as the parent have a concern it is very important to touch base with the teacher first, whether that be via phone or email.  Emails seem to be the most effective. Most of the time whatever the concern is can be resolved.  If not and a conference is necessary, all conferences are established through the guidance office.  All parent conferences will be scheduled from 7:15am-7:35am.

Please be sure you are checking Pinnacle for academic and attendance updates.  Remember you only have 48 hours after an absence to call it in.  Call 754-322-2152 and please check Pinnacle to be sure the absence has been excused.
