About the Program
Colbert is a whole-school Sprouting STEM Museum Magnet School. As such, we work to engage our students in hands-on, problem solving, and cooperative learning STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities. The integration of the museum model in STEM curriculum offers students the opportunity to explore, experiment, explain, and exhibit research through engaging real-word projects. Students use engineering practices to create, build, and design solutions as they interact with academics in a new enriching manner. Throughout the year, all students at Colbert Museum Magnet- grades K-5- work on problem based learning units and engineering design challenges. At the end of each quarter, Colbert hosts an engineering showcase/museum night to showcase student developed exhibits that display thematic and engineering units they’ve been learning in class.
Students whose home school is Colbert do not have to apply for the STEM program. Students living outside of Colbert’s boundaries need to apply for the STEM program through the School Choice application process. Applications can be found online at www.browardschools.com/schoolchoice. The application window for the 2019-2020 school year is from December 1, 2018 - February 6, 2019
Please contact our magnet coordinator, Chentel Neat at 754-323-5125 for more information about applying to our program or to schedule a tour of the school.
