School Counselor's Corner
Welcome back to Silver Ridge! For parents and guardians who are new to our school, I would like to welcome you, introduce myself and provide you with a little information regarding our school-counseling program.
I have been the school counselor here at Silver Ridge since 2003, and was a Middle School Counselor in Miami-Dade prior to coming to SRE. My career began as a classroom teacher and I spent 14 years teaching grades 4-6 in Miami-Dade.
Since we have a large student population of almost 1150, I try to use my time effectively to reach as many of our SRE students as possible.
I work with the teachers on many school wide initiatives such as Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Welcoming Schools, Peace Week, Red Ribbon Week, Anti Bullying Week, etc. I also teach classroom guidance lessons to all classes, giving students the opportunity to learn and practice SEL skills related to self- awareness, self-management, social awareness, social relations, and decision-making. Lunch Bunch groups (see Lunch Group form) also focus on SEL skills for those who may need additional practice. Individual consultation with students, parents, or teachers is a big part of my day, addressing questions and needs that may be unique to a student or family.
In addition to my counseling duties, I am also the Testing Coordinator for State and District testing, and the Section 504 Liaison for SRE.
If you should have any needs or questions regarding the scope of our school counseling program, State and District testing, or Section 504, please don’t hesitate to email from the Staff Directory webpage or contact me at school at 754-323-7500.
Here’s to a great school year!
