    2019-2020 Head Start/Early Head Start Application Information

    Please see below if you are interested in applying for the Head Start/Early Head Start program. 

    To apply for our Head Start/Early Head Start program for the 2019-2020 school year, please do the following:

    Step 1. Complete the online Pre-Application *If you applied for our program before, do not complete the pre-application. Duplicate accounts will delay processing.

    Step 2. Click here to request an in-person interview 

    Step 3. Please make sure to bring all required documents to your interview: (Incomplete applications will not be accepted)

      • Proof of age (child’s ORIGINAL birth certificate or foreign passport)
      • Proof of guardianship, if applicable
      • Parent/guardian photo identification
      • Proof of Broward County residence (domicile)
      • Proof of ALL HOUSEHOLD INCOME FOR PREVIOUS CALENDAR YEAR (2018) OR PAST 12 MONTHS
      • 2019 Federal Poverty Guidelines

    Children with disabilities, homeless and Foster Care children, who meet all other requirements, are encouraged to apply.

    Your application is not complete nor will your child be considered for enrollment until you have completed the interview.

      • Public Assistance records (TANF, W.A.G.E.S.) with amounts and dates received
      • Notarized written statement from employer
      • Retirement benefits records
      • Supplemental Security Income records (SSI) Award Letter
      • Social Security Benefits (SSA) Award Letter
      • Veterans benefits records
      • Child Support/Alimony records
      • Worker’s Compensation records
      • Military allotment records

      Please be aware of the following: Broward County Head Start/Early Head Start has a limited number of available slots and applying does not guarantee that your child will be enrolled. Enrollment is based on eligibility and the needs of the child/family. To be accepted, your child needs to meet the age and income requirements.     • Important Information about Entering Kindergarten after Head Start/Early Head Start
      Selection for a Head Start/Early Head Start program at a school does not guarantee placement for Kindergarten at the same school. If your child is selected or offered a seat in a Head Start/Early Head Start class that is not your boundary schoolyou must apply for and receive a reassignment in order for your child to attend Kindergarten at the same school. To learn about the reassignment process, please visit the School Choice website.

    • Head Start is a parent participation program that offers comprehensive preschool services to expectant mothers and children, ages birth to five years old at no cost to eligible families. Face-to-face interviews are required in order to complete the application process. Eligibility and selection are based on family need and income.  Space is limited. Head Start and Early Head Start is a needs based program and the district follows federal guidelines for admission into the program.Children with documented disabilities or special needs are encouraged to apply. Transportation is not provided. Completing an application and face-to-face interview does NOT guarantee selection into the program.
