Head Start Eligibility Requirements

    In order to be eligible for the Head Start Program, the following must apply:

      • Head Start children must be 3-or 4-years-old on or before September 1st.
      • Family income must be at or below the US Department of Health & Human Services Poverty Guidelines to qualify for the program.
      • Applications must be completed by parent/guardian ONLY.
      • Children with disabilities, who meet all other requirements, are welcomed to apply.

    Documents Needed To Apply

      • Proof of dental examination - Dental Form *new requirement
      • Proof of age (child’s ORIGINAL birth certificate or passport)
      • Proof of guardianship, if applicable
      • Parent/guardian photo identification
      • Proof of Broward County residence (domicile)
      • Proof of ALL HOUSEHOLD INCOME FOR PREVIOUS CALENDAR YEAR (2017) OR PAST 12 MONTHS

    Examples of acceptable income documentation for each family member

      • Pay stubs with year-to-date income for full year
      • All 2017 W-2 Forms
      • 2017 Income Tax Form 1040 (with Schedule C if self-employed)
      • Unemployment Compensation Records
      • Public Assistance records (TANF, W.A.G.E.S.) with amounts and dates received
      • Notarized written statement from employer
      • Retirement benefits records
      • Supplemental Security Income records (SSI)
      • Veterans benefits records
      • Child Support/Alimony records
      • Worker’s Compensation records
      • Military allotment records
      • Training stipends
      • Grants, fellowships, scholarships
      • Social Security Benefits

    Application Information: Parents who are interested in the Head Start/Early Head Start program should submit a pre-application online and an application interview request and will be contacted for an appointment.

Early Head Start Eligibility Requirements

    In order to be eligible for the Early Head Start Program, the following must apply:

      • Early Head Start accepts pregnant women and children birth to 3-years-old.
      • Family income must be at or below the US Department of Health & Human Services Poverty Guidelines to qualify for the program.
      • Applications must be completed by parent/guardian ONLY.
      • Children with disabilities, who meet all other requirements, are welcomed to apply.

    Documents Needed To Apply

      • Proof of age (example: child's ORIGINAL birth certificate)
      • Proof of ALL household income from the previous year
      • Proof of guardianship, if applicable
      • Proof of Broward County residency
      • Photo identification 

Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Eligibility Requirements

    In order to be eligible for the VPK Program, the following must apply:

        • Children must be 4-years-old on or before September 1st
        • Children must be a resident of the State of Florida
        • Children with disabilities, who meet the requirements above, are welcomed to apply.

    When applying for the VPK Program, the following documents are required:

        • Proof of age (example: child's ORIGINAL birth certificate)
        • Proof of Broward County residency
        • Photo identification

    VPK Application Process 

    There is a 2-step process to apply for any District VPK program:

        • Parents must obtain a VPK Certificate of Eligibility. In order to do this, a valid email address is required.
          • Applications for the VPK Certificate of Eligibility are submitted online through the State’s Single Point of Entry (SPE) system: https://vpkcp.floridaearlylearning.com
          • Proof of residence and proof of age must be uploaded into the SPE system.
          • A VPK Certificate of Eligibility will be emailed to the applicant.
        • Parents must bring the VPK Certificate of Eligibility to the participating school.

    To apply for any District VPK program for the 2018-2019 school year, please do the following: Step 1. Visit the school to receive application documents. Step 2. (NEW) Complete Online BCPS Pre-Application (Headstart-VPK). Step 3. Provide the following documents to the school:

        • Your child’s VPK Certificate of Eligibility (to apply for your child’s VPK Certificate, visit (https://vpkcp.floridaearlylearning.com).
        • VPK Program Protocols – Signed and Dated
        • Parent Questionnaire (if provided by the school)
        • Preschool Medical Record – Signed and Dated
        • Student Registration Form – (provided by the school)
        • Copy of your child’s birth certificate (or other proof of child’s age)
        • A printed copy of your VPK Pre-Application confirmation email

    Applications for the VPK Certificate of Eligibility are submitted online through the State’s Single Point of Entry (SPE) system. Click on the link to obtain your certificate (https://vpkcp.floridaearlylearning.com).
