Smiling is a universal sign of happiness. No matter what country you go to or what culture you take in, smiling is seen as a sign of happiness and acceptance. The main reason for that is because studies have shown that when a person is smiling, it affects certain muscles that can make that person feel happy. When you use these specific muscles, your brain will release endorphins, which are brain chemicals that will induce feelings of pleasure and euphoria. Smiling truly does have the ability to make you happier – even if you have to force yourself into doing so! Start with Hello AND a Smile

Sometimes, we all need time by ourselves. This is healthy and ok. However, if someone is chronically isolated from others, whether they are isolating themselves or being excluded, it could be a warning sign that they need help and someone to reach out to them. Why should I Start With Hello? To create a more connected and inclusive school community, to inspire others and create lifelong friendships, to make a difference in someone’s life and help them feel accepted, included and valued, to stop someone from possibly hurting themselves or others. Please remember that everyone should wear GREEN tomorrow.

Attention First Priority members: tomorrow, September 25, meet at the flagpole as students across the nation pray for their schools. We will be meeting at 7:15am . All students and staff members are welcome.

This week is suicide prevention week and we will be making some informational announcements the rest of the week. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24 and is the leading cause of preventable death in youth. 80% of people who attempt suicide will show warning signs before the attempt, although some signs can be difficult to see and understand. Therefore, if you know someone who has died by suicide, it doesn't mean it was your fault because you didn't see the signs. Always be prepared to approach a trusted adult when you are worried about a friend. Never tell a friend that you will keep their suicidal thoughts or feelings a secret. There is help. There is Hope. There is Healing.
