Magnet Application InformationThe application process is different depending on whether your student is an in-boundary or out-of-boundary student. Read below for specific information on how your student can become part of our FLHS Flying "L" family.
In-Boundary Magnet StudentsAll eligible students living within the boundary zone of FLHS are guaranteed a spot in one of our magnet programs. To be eligible, students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher AND a Level 3 or higher on their FSA or EOC exams for Reading and Math. There is no need to complete an application on School Choice if you wish to attend a magnet program at your boundary school.To register as an in-boundary magnet student at FLHS, please check our Magnet Events Calendar and look for "Registration Event: In-Boundary Magnet Students Only" to find a special registration nights scheduled just for you! These events will take place in March/April.To verify that you live within the FLHS boundary zone, please visit https://www.browardschools.com/school-locator and enter your home address.
Out-of-Boundary Magnet StudentsIf you live outside the FLHS boundary zone, you must apply to our program through the District. Visit the Broward County Schools' School Choice website, complete the application, and select Fort Lauderdale High School as your desired high school!After you have completed the School Choice application online, remember to send a copy of the applicant's most recent report card and FSA scores (or other nationally recognized standardized scores in reading and mathematics) to the BCPS Office of School choice. Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be transportation for my child if he/she is accepted to the program?
A. Yes, Magnet students are provided bus transportation at no cost so long as the students are living within Broward County.
How and when will I be notified of my acceptance into FLHS?
A. If you submitted your application by the Phase I deadline, notifications should be sent sometime in March. Late applications will be processed after all on-time applications.
Will I automatically be registered at FLHS after I am accepted into the program?
A. No. You must register at FLHS following acceptance into the Magnet Program. Magnet Schools send acceptance letters to designated students, indicating a designated registration period. All students must register during that time period to guarantee a spot in the program. FLHS will contact you by email and/or telephone to give you specific information on the registration nights available.
What do I do if I have trouble completing the application or want to make sure my application is complete?
