Dismissal

  • Students are dismissed according to the instructions submitted by parents on the CPE Student Dismissal form at Meet Your Teacher Day. Parents may view a sample dismissal form (click here). A separate Student Emergency Dismissal Information form will come home with your child on the first day of school. Complete that form and return it to your child's classroom teacher by the end of the first week.

  • In the event of an emergency dismissal, students are dismissed ONLY to the individuals listed on the Student Emergency Dismissal Form. The Student Emergency Dismissal Form is sent home with the student the first day of school. Parents should complete the form and return it by the end of the first week of school.

Maintaining a consistent daily dismissal method makes dismissal time safer and easier for both the school and the student. Any temporary changes to a student’s dismissal method must be submitted to the teacher in writing no later than 9:00 a.m. on the day of the change so that the teacher has time to make the necessary arrangements for the student’s dismissal.

Bus riders, private, CPE aftercare, walkers, and bike riders are dismissed before car riders or students whose parents pick them up at the gate.

Kindergarten students are dismissed in the front loop (same loop as morning arrival), while grades 1 through 5 are dismissed in the back loop (along Sunset Park).

The PICK UP ZONE for each loop is clearly marked with signs along the gate and orange cones along the curb. The cones create a safety barrier between students on the sidewalk and cars in the loop. Walking between the sidewalk and the cones is a safety hazard.

Cars typically begin arriving for both loops around 1:40 p.m. Traffic around the Cleary Blvd school entrance tends to become increasingly congested the closer it gets to 2:00 p.m. The regular Cleary Blvd. speed limit of 40 mph is in effect until 2:00 p.m. Drivers making turns into the school entrance prior to 2:00 p.m. should exercise caution.  School zone speed limits of 15 mph are in effect between 2:00-2:30 p.m.

Crossing guards are available to assist students from 2:00-2:30 p.m. at the four corners of Nob Hill and Cleary. Crossing guards are also stationed on both sides of Cleary at Sunset Park.

    Kindergarten Dismissal

Kindergarteners who are not walkers, bike riders, or bus riders are dismissed to parents who walk up to the gate, or to parents driving through the front car loop. Kindergarteners with older siblings will usually be met by those siblings before being released to parents.

    Kindergarten Car Loop

    • The BLUE GATE is used to dismiss kindergarten car riders and their siblings ONLY. The car rider PICK UP ZONE is between the FIRST CAR STOPS HERE sign and the PORTABLES GATE.
    • The first car in the car loop stops at the FIRST CAR STOPS HERE sign. PRIOR TO DISMISSAL, school staff records the students being released to the first five cars so that those students are ready UPON DISMISSAL. Once the first five cars have been loaded, those cars exit the car loop, and the next five cars are loaded. This process continues until the car loop has been cleared.
    • The Kindergarten Car Loop holds approximately 20 cars. If the loop is full, school staff will direct drivers to the “overflow” line. To get to the overflow line, drivers need to circle around the parking lot as directed, and come to a stop at the end of the lane closest to Cleary. Once there is room in the loop drivers will be directed to enter the car loop.
    • School staff or CPE volunteers will bring your child to your car. Drivers should stay in their cars so they are ready to pull forward or open automatic doors.
    • Drivers should display the rear view mirror hang tag with their child’s name and teacher. Making sure the rear view mirror hang tag is in place and visible to school staff upon arrival in the car loop helps make the car loop flow more smoothly. If more than one person regularly picks up a student, contact the school’s front office at 754-322-5700 to obtain an additional hang tag.
    • Students are to enter cars on the passenger side ONLY. Students are responsible for entering the car on their own. If a child is unable to enter the car independently (open and close the car door and buckle up), walking parent pick up from the portables gate may be a safer alternative.
    • Drivers should NEVER begin to exit the car loop until the child is securely inside the car. A child is securely inside the car when both the child’s entire body and all their belongings are inside the car, and the car door has been closed.
    • Once your child is securely inside the car, exit the school by going along the outer parking lot lane to the school entrance on Cleary Blvd. Turn right on Cleary Blvd. No left turns are allowed until after dismissal time. Drivers attempting to turn left on Cleary Blvd., or who cross the double yellow lines to make an illegal turn during the afternoon dismissal period are subject to traffic citations from the Plantation Police Department.

    Walking Parent Pick Up

    • Kindergarten students and siblings with parents doing walking parent pick up are dismissed from the BLUE GATE ONLY.
    • The blue gate is opened at approximately 1:58 p.m.
    • Parents will be directed to wait the within the staging area inside the gate near the portables until 2:00 p.m. dismissal.
    • Teachers bring kindergarten students to the staging area under the blue gate walkway, where they are usually met by any older siblings.
    • A Central Park Elementary staff member coordinates the release of students to their parents.
    • Parents and students are to exit the blue gate, and use crosswalks and sidewalks to get to their car safely.
    • REMINDER: The parking lot lane closest to Cleary has many moving vehicles during dismissal time. Drivers cannot always see small children, especially when they suddenly appear in front of a car from between two parked cars. If it is not possible to hold all small children by the hand, then using the kindergarten car loop might be a safer option.

    Grades 1 – 5 Dismissal

Grade 1 through 5 students who are not walkers, bike riders, or bus riders are dismissed at 2:00 p.m. to parents who walk up to the park gate, or to parents driving through the back car loop next to Sunset Park. Grade-schoolers with kindergarten siblings wait with their kindergarten siblings in the kindergarten dismissal area before being released to parents.

    Park Gate Walkers

    • Park gate walkers in grades 1-5 are escorted by staff across the crosswalk in the back car loop to the park gate exit facing Sunset Park.
    • Students in grades 1-5 then exit through the park gate facing Sunset Park, walk down the pathway to the end, and meet their parents at Sunset Park. Parents and students can then walk to their car in the Sunset Park parking lot.

    Back Car Loop

    • The back car loop gate opens at 1:50 pm.
    • Drivers MUST display the car rider sign on the rear view mirror. Making sure the rear view mirror hang tag is in place and visible to school staff upon arrival in the car loop helps make the car loop flow more smoothly. If more than one person regularly picks up a student, contact the school’s front office at 754-322-5700 to obtain an additional hang tag.
    • Students wait for their car under the covered walkway supervised by staff.
    • Grade 1-5 car riders will be escorted to their waiting area by staff. A school staff member calls the names of car riders (usually 6 to 7 at a time) as cars approach the waiting area. Drivers should pull forward as much as possible to allow the maximum number of car riders to enter their cars. Drivers should stay in their cars so they are ready to pull forward or open automatic doors.
    • Students are to enter cars on the passenger side ONLY. Students are responsible for entering the car on their own. If a child is unable to enter the car independently (open and close the car door and buckle up), walking up to pick them up from the gate may be a safer alternative.

    Back Gate Walkers

The back gate leads to and from NW 7th Court from the southwest corner of the campus. This gate services students who live within walking distance of the back gate. This gate is a walk up gate ONLY. The Plantation Police Department will issue citations to drivers who pick up students at the back gate.
