Principal's Message

  • Melinda Wessinger Principal of New River MSWelcome to New River Middle School, the “Home of the Sharks.” I am extremely proud to serve as the principal of this amazing educational institution where we focus on the “whole” child, creating excitement for learning through experiential and relevant opportunities for all students. This vision was showcased in our first Mission Possible: Sharks in Action event. School and Community members came out to enjoy the day and observe our students’ public products from their schoolwide project-based learning experiences. The focus was on finding solutions to the worldwide problem of marine plastic pollution. We will be continuing our work of cleaning our own backyard and brainstorming global solutions to the plastics problem.

As we are embarking on the second half of the 21-22 school year, we have many exciting things to announce. Mrs. Fahy, Marine Science Teacher, has been named a finalist for Broward County’s Teacher of the Year. Way to go Mrs. Fahy!!! New River has also again been recognized by Magnet Schools of America as a Magnet School of Excellence as well as a Magnet School of Distinction for the two programs Integrated Careers and Academic networks (iCan) and Marine Science. We continue to be a Certified Magnet School.

In addition, I am honored to be recognized as Broward County’s Magnet Principal of the Year. New River Middle School has a great team of educators who work tirelessly to meet the needs of the student body. My job is to support the teachers, students, and the families. I am committed to ensuring that all students have a positive experience and have their individual needs met.

We will continue to bring learning to life. Innovative learning and making connections are key components to educational success.

It is a great time to be a new River Middle School Shark.

    Melinda Wessinger
