Principal's Message


    Off to a Great Reopening! 

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

    First and foremost, we hope these words find you and your loved ones safe and healthy. We miss our students, and the daily interactions we have with them, as they are our purpose… our why.  Having stated this, we have truly appreciated the opportunity to welcome back and interact with the students who have returned to school for face-to-face eLearning instruction.

    If you have chosen to have your children attend school and participate in face-to-face e-Learning, please trust that we will continue to adhere to all CDC guidelines, to include physical distancing, require all students and staff to wear face coverings, and continue to sanitize and disinfect our school, giving special attention to our high-touch areas. Accordingly, we have placed signs and decals throughout our campus to serve as important reminders.

    If your children are presently learning remotely, but you would like them to attend school physically, please contact our school and advise a clerical staff member that you would like complete the Face-to-Face eLearning Survey. Administration is monitoring the survey responses regularly and scheduling students accordingly. Please note that in order to provide face-to-face seats in an equitable and fair manner, we are awarding face-to-face seats in the order that we received the surveys, which are date and time-stamped.

    Additionally, we strongly encourage the parents of students who need a technology device or have to replace a technology device that was distributed by Broward County Public Schools but is no longer in good working condition to please complete the Technology Assistance Form using the provided link within the Riverland News section on our school’s website. Similarly, please note that we will continue to distribute essential materials for all students from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  In order to observe CDC guidelines, please wear face coverings and maintain at least six feet apart from others when walking up to gather your children’s school materials.

    Furthermore, please note that our school days start promptly at 8:00 AM and conclude at 2:00 PM. As such, please note that students are expected to log in to their Canvas course through Clever from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM every day, regardless of whether they are participating in eLearning from home or at school. A schedule of your child’s school day, teacher contact information, and course information is posted on your child’s Canvas course.

    In order to continue providing the best learning environment for your child, we must continue to collaborate and support one another. Therefore, we encourage you to look for the link in your child’s Canvas course entitled “Need Assistance With Schoolwork - Ask BRIA.” By clicking on that link, students will be guided to a live Teams session with a certified teacher to receive academic support via BRIA (Broward Remote Instructional Assistance). This service is provided to all students Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. 

    Moreover, please note that grab-and-go meals will be distributed in the bus loop area every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. 

    As a reminder, if you have not already done so, please be sure to review and complete all of the back to school forms online at: It is also critical that you apply to determine if your child qualifies to receive free or reduced lunch. You may do so online at The process is fast and easy, so please apply as soon as possible.

    Also, we want to remind everyone that safety and security continue to be our top priority. As such, we will continue to utilize our single point of entry, through our front office, and keep classroom doors locked at all times. Additionally, all staff members and students will wear school identification badges at all times.

    Likewise, we will continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment by closely monitoring access onto our school campus. Accordingly, our school gates will remain locked throughout the school day. Please make certain that you bring a form of photo identification when visiting our campus, as all visitors will be asked to present photo identification when bringing a student to school after our scheduled start time, to sign out a student for early dismissal, or to access our campus for school-related matters. Please note that children will only be dismissed to those individuals identified on the Student Emergency Contact Card.

    Per State statutes, we will continue to practice our monthly fire drills and bi-annual tornado drills. We will also practice Code Red drills and the safety practices outlined in our school’s safety plan on a monthly basis. Please note that we will advise you via ParentLink when these drills take place, so that you are informed and not alarmed.

    Lastly, please know that Riverland Elementary School's staff remains committed to providing a high quality education to all students.
