    Dear Rock Family,

Over the past few months, I have thought about all of you and the needs f our parents that continue to support their scholars at home for face-to-face virtual learning. I know that serving as the parent and the teacher is often times difficult. As a result, Ms. Stephenson and I have partner together to support our parents. All of you wear a cape daily, because you are our heroes. We will begin a monthly parent check –in which will provide support services and to build our school relationships as we embark in the latest initiative, Counselor and Principal Parent Encouragement (C.A.P.P.E) Initiative. Ms. Stephenson will share a survey to gain insight on the needs of our school and an invite to C.A.P.P.E. via Class Dojo. I look forward to all of you joining us.

School safety is a top priority at Rock Island. Our school community makes every attempt to enforce single-point of entry for the campus and secure the building before, after and during the school day. The main and bus gate open at 8:00 am to minimize the traffic on campus prior to supervision and administrative staff. Faculty, staff and visitors park in the front parking lot so the bus loop gate can be secured during the entire school day.

Arrival to school on time is critical. Our school day begins promptly at 8:30 am. All students are to be in their seat at 8:30 am. Help us by sending your child to school on time. We teach our rockets to be aware of their environment. Students that walk and ride bicycles to school should leave home no later than 8:00 am based on the travel time they require to arrive at school prior to the 8:30 am tardy bell and to arrive on time to eat breakfast and to ensure other students are with them as they walk to school.

When students are signed out early on an ongoing basis, their academic performance may be negatively impacted. In an effort to support the advancement of our scholars, we strongly encourage parents to ensure their scholar is in school for the duration of the school day every day. Signing out early may count toward establishing a pattern of non-attendance that may indicate early signs of truancy. Virtual school attendance is just as important ad face-to-face school attendance. Therefore, a pattern of non-attendance may be established for virtual and face-to-face students after an accumulation of tardiness, absences (excused and unexcused), and early sign outs that exceeds five (5) days in a marking period or ten (10) days in two (2) marking periods. 1. All schools will establish procedures for early release that ensure that all students are treated consistently. 2. Students shall not be released within the final 30 minutes of the school day unless the principal/designee determines that it is an emergency or the student has a medical/dental appointment that cannot be reasonably scheduled at another time. 3. Excessive early sign outs will be addressed on a case-by-case basis to determine if there is a pattern of non-attendance. The last early pick up for pre-kindergarten is at 2:00 pm and at 2:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade.
