Pick Up & Drop Off

  • ARRIVAL PROCEDURES 

    Please note that school gates are locked until 8:15 am Supervision of students is not provided prior to 8:15 am, unless the student is enrolled in the Morning Care Program. 

     

    The following safety rules and regulations must be followed in order to protect our children:   

    • Families driving students to school must observe all stop signs and follow the directions of the crossing guards.  
    • It is requested that parents not use cell phones while driving in the pick-up/drop-off areas.  
    • When entering the driveway, maintain a single line of cars and drive to the end of the sidewalk.  
    • Please do not pass other cars, ask students to walk between cars, or stop in the middle of the driveway. 
    • All students that arrive to the school prior to 8:55 a.m. should proceed to the cafeteria. After  

      8:55 a.m. students should proceed to their classroom. 

     

    DISMISSAL PROCEDURES 

    Students in our Headstart Programs are dismissed at 3:00p.m. All other students (Grades K-5) are dismissed at 3:35 p.m. Students should leave the campus immediately in an orderly manner. 

     

    Car RidersCar Riders in grades K -5 should wait in the designated area near the front of the school. In order to expedite dismissal, parents must stay their vehicle. Your child will be escorted to your car. 

     

    Side Gate: Parents that choose to park their car to retrieve their child, must report to the side walker’s gate. Your child will be dismissed as a walker. They are only considered a car rider if you remain in your car. Parents should make arrangements with their child ahead of time, if you plan to meet them at the side gate. 

     

    Walkers: Walker are to only cross streets where crossing guards are stationed. For safety purposes, walkers will ONLY be dismissed from the side gates in the front of the school. Walkers may NOT exit through the back gate located by the bus area. No exceptions. 

     

    Bike RidersBike riders should go directly to the bike rack to secure and/or pick up their bikes. Students must walk their bikes in the crosswalks. Bikes are not permitted on the walkways at any time.  All bike riders should have locks for their bicycles and should use them daily. Incidents involving theft will be investigated, however DPE will not be responsible for replacing bikes.  Reminder: The law requires that all bike riders wear a helmet.  

     

    Bus Riders: Bus transportation is provided for students residing 2 miles or more from school.  In order to help ensure the safety of all passengers, each bus rider is expected to cooperate and follow bus safety rules. Bus Riders should proceed to the back of the school and wait in the designated areas. Please do not drop students off or pick them up in the bus loop. 

    Aftercare Students: Students in our on-site Aftercare Program should proceed immediately to the Cafeteria at dismissal  

     

    Please note: Teachers must be notified in writing if a student will be taking transportation home that deviates from the normal routine. Parents can also personally call the school or teacher. If the written or verbal notification is not received directly from the parent, the student will go home in the usual way

     

    LATE PICK UP 

    Students need to be picked up promptly at dismissal time.  If you are unable to make arrangements to pick up your child at 3:35 p.m., please register your child in our After-School Program.  Parents who are late picking up their child(ren) must come into the office and sign him/her out. Excessive late pick ups may result in a referral to the School Social Worker and/or contact with our School Resource Officer. 

     

    EARLY DISMISSAL 

    Students will NOT be released after 3:05 p.m. according to School Board Policy. Please make dental and/or doctor appointments after the Instructional Day when possible. Homework and other instructions are often given at the end of the day and your child needs to be present. A student will only be released to individuals on the emergency contact forms, unless the parent has contacted the school to verify a change in pick up arrangements.  Make sure you have updated your child’s forms. 

     

    Controlling School Trafiic is Essential for Safety

    Students should be picked up and dropped off at front of the school car loop only. Parents wishing to park should walk their children to the sidewalk only. Parents are not allowed to walk their children to their classrooms.
