Our Schools

Elementary Science

The Elementary Learning Department is committed to supporting schools in providing rigorous, high-quality instruction to ALL students, focused on deliberate and relevant teaching, learning, and student engagement, resulting in high impact teaching and globally competitive students.  The Department houses the English Language Arts, Math, Science,  and Social Studies content areas as well as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

 

In Broward County Public Schools, students in grades K–5 use Discovery Education as their core science curriculum. This program is fully aligned with the Florida State Academic Standards for Science.

Students explore and engage with content across four key areas of science:

  • Physical Science

  • Life Science

  • Earth and Space Science

  • Nature of Science

Each unit within Discovery Education includes a Caregiver Course Overview document, available under "Course Materials" in every grade level's Techbook. This overview helps families stay informed and involved in their child's learning.

The Discovery Education Techbook is accessible through your student's Clever Dashboard by selecting the Discovery Education (DE) app.

Students in Grade 5 will participate in the State Science Assessment in May. The following document provides some suggested home-based activities that you can engage in with your student that will help them be more successful in science.
