How Low Can You Go Challenge

In partnership with the Miami Heat, schools are challenged to find innovative ways to reduce energy and water consumption, and food waste at each school campus in a 3-month period compared to previous years.  Recognized by the White House, NOAA and National Geographic as an innovative community project to raise awareness of the effects of CO2 emissions on the environment and change behaviors.  

The How Low Challenge kicks off Oct. 6 - March 1

  • Reduced over 26+ Million kWh energy consumption
  • Cost savings real dollars save for schools $3.1 million
  • Reduced CO2 emissions by 49 million lbs.
  • Reduced water consumption by over 51+ million gallons

Winning Schools 2025-26

Electrical Consumption & kWh Energy Reduction:

• 1st Place, Taravella High School – Reduced electrical consumption by 34% and water reduction by 35% from the previous year.
   
• 2nd Place: Cypress Elementary School – Reduced electrical consumption by 25% and water reduction by 14% from the previous year.
   
• 3rd Place: International Studies Preparatory – Reduced electrical consumption by 24% from the previous year.

Greatest Water Reduction:

Driftwood Middle School - Academy of Health & Wellness – Reduced water usage by 93% from the previous year.
