Broward County Public Schools, with the support of the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act, provides a Driver's Education program at 11 schools. BCPS's Driver's Education program has a fleet of over 90 vehicles and serves over 2400 students annually

Driver's Education Goals

Provide a program that ensures the safety of our student drivers
Mandatory driving in physical cars (not simulators)
State certification for all instructors
Provide research and statistics of all student drivers who completed our program
Provide all students who are eligible the opportunity to take the Class E Knowledge (Permit) or Skills (License) exam to get their Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License

Register: Registration for Driver's Education is a random lottery. All Public, Charter & Private School students must register through the website link in the yellow box above.
SCHOOLS:
Boyd Anderson HS, Coral Glades HS, Coral Springs HS, Cypress Bay HS, Deerfield Beach HS, Everglades HS, Flanagan HS, McArthur HS, Northeast HS, Plantation HS, and Pompano Beach HS
Instruction Time: 34 Hours. Each class is 225 minutes, where students spend time in the classroom and on the range. Students can miss one class, except on the first day. Students must be in attendance on the first day or will be automatically withdrawn from the program.

Description

Program Overview: The BCPS Driver’s Education Program is open to all students—public and non-public—who are at least 15 years old and both reside and attend school in Broward County

This hybrid program combines classroom instruction with hands-on driving experience. Students rotate between learning in the classroom and practicing behind the wheel. The classroom portion covers essential topics such as defensive driving techniques, traffic safety laws, road rules, and best practices for safe driving.

During the driving portion, students begin by developing maneuverability and defensive driving skills in a controlled parking lot environment. Those who already hold a learner’s permit will also have the opportunity to drive on local roads under the supervision of certified instructors, gaining valuable real-world experience.

Learner’s Permit and Driver’s License Testing

Learner’s Permit and Driver’s License Testing: The BCPS Driver’s Education Program is part of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program (DELAP). All instructional sites are staffed with certified DELAP instructors who are authorized to administer both the Class E Knowledge Exam (learner’s permit) and the Class E Skills Exam (driver’s license).

Lost Certificate

Once students successfully complete the Driver’s Education course and pass either the Class E Knowledge Exam (learner’s permit) or the Class E Skills Exam (driver’s license), they may visit the DMV to obtain their license. The DMV uses a paperless system, and student records are submitted electronically through the FLHSMV Idemia system.

Before visiting the DMV, we strongly recommend reviewing our Permit and License Testing page to ensure you’re fully prepared and to help avoid any potential issues during your visit. If you encounter any problems at the DMV that cannot be resolved on-site, please contact your test administrator via email. Contact information is provided to students after they successfully pass their exam.

Permit and License Testing

If an agent states that your test result or the Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course is not on your account, please kindly ask for a supervisor. Explain to the agent and supervisor that you took the BCPS Driver’s Education program, which is part of the DELAP Provider System (Driver’s Education Licensing Assistance Program). That means a third party (BCPS) administered your test and that BCPS Driver’s Education program is a substitute for the DETS and TLSAE course requirement. Agents are supposed to be trained in this nuance rule but sometimes they aren’t, which is why asking for a supervisor will help resolve this issue. If a student is turned away at the DMV after speaking to a supervisor using the helpful hints above, the student must reach out to the instructor who tested them to resolve the issue. If the student has lost the contact information of the teacher who helped administer the test, please reach out to Dillon Giorgis at 754-321-1871 to coordinate this resolution.”
