Permit & License Testing

Broward County Public Schools is proud to offer third-party testing at all Driver’s Education locations through the Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program (DELAP). Each site is staffed with state-certified DELAP instructors who are authorized to administer both the Class E Knowledge Exam (learner’s permit) and the Class E Skills Exam (driver’s license).

Eligibility Requirements: All students are eligible to take Class E Knowledge Exam, since our program requires students to be 15 years of age by the first day of class. To take the Class E Skills Test, students must hold a learner’s permit.

DELAP testing is typically conducted on the 6th and 7th day of the Driver’s Education course. Once a student passes the required exam(s) and completes the course, they may visit a local DMV office to have their photo taken and their license issued.

If you passed the Class E Knowledge exam (learner’s license) and successfully completed the course, you can schedule an appointment with your local DMV to receive your learner’s license.
If you passed the Class E Skills exam (driver’s license) and successfully completed the course, you can schedule an appointment with your local DMV after the 1 year anniversary of the issuance of your learner’s license or your 18th birthday, whichever comes first.

Trouble at the Drivers License Issuance Office

On the occasion a student encounters a problem at the DMV, please follow these helpful hints to mitigate risks of being turned away:

- If an agent states that your test result or the Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course is not on your account, please kindly ask for a supervisor. Explain to the agent and supervisor that you took the BCPS Driver’s Education program, which is part of the DELAP Provider System (Driver’s Education Licensing Assistance Program). That means a third party (BCPS) administered your test and that BCPS Driver’s Education program is a substitute for the DETS and TLSAE course requirement. Agents are supposed to be trained in this nuance rule but sometimes they aren’t, which is why asking for a supervisor will help resolve this issue. If a student is turned away at the DMV after speaking to a supervisor using the helpful hints above, the student must reach out to the instructor who tested them to resolve the issue. If the student has lost the contact information of the teacher who helped administer the test, please reach out to Dillon Giorgis at 754-321-1871 to coordinate this resolution.
