Broward County Public Schools and Chess4Life are partners on a hands-on approach to chess. The Broward Chess Initiative affords all second grade students and all K-12 chess clubs with access to high-quality instruction and participation in a program that engages young minds, teaching critical and creative thinking skills.

End of the Year Chess Tournament Registration is Open

Get ready for an exciting showdown as registration is open for the End-of-Year Championship Chess Tournament!

This tournament is open to students in grades K–12 and is FREE for all BCPS public school students—the perfect opportunity to showcase strategy, skill, and sportsmanship as we wrap up the school year.

  • Registration Opens: Friday, March 27, 2026

  • Registration Closes: Wednesday, April 29, 2026

  • Cost: Free to BCPS public school students only. Private and charter school students are welcome to attend with a nominal registration fee.

  • Who Can Participate: Students in grades K–12

  • Location: Millennium 6–12 Collegiate Academy 5803 NW 94th Avenue, Tamarac, FL 33321

Chess Tournaments Winners

On Saturday, February 28, 2028, students from across the district and beyond participated in the Chess Tournament at Olsen Middle School. Approximately 200 students representing 49 schools in grades K–12 came out to showcase their incredible chess skills and sportsmanship.

High School (Grades 9–12)
1st: Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
2nd: Coral Glades High School
3rd: Cypress Bay High School

Middle School (Grades 6–8)
(tied for 1st–2nd): Sawgrass Springs Middle School
(tied for 1st–2nd): Falcon Cove Middle School
3rd: Pioneer Middle School

Elementary (Grades K–5)
1st: Indian Trace Elementary School
2nd: Embassy Creek Elementary School
3rd: Gator Run Elementary School
