Esports
Broward County Public Schools eSports in education provides new opportunities for students to engage in their school community and foster teamwork.
BCPS eSports at Broward County Public Schools started in 2022 and is now in various schools. The main video game used is "Rocket League" and Minecraft. Rocket League is a fast-paced game of cars playing soccer and has an ESRB rating of E (for Everyone). Each match is between two and five minutes, with two teams of three players each and a sudden death overtime occurs if the match ends in a tie. Students tackled sustainability in the Minecraft esports program hosted by BCPS with Minecraft Education and community partners. Winners competed in a live build challenge broadcast.
The Applied Learning Department plans on expanding the eSports initiative across 100% of secondary grade schools.
