Broward Educational Communications Network (BECON)

The Broward Education Communications Network (BECON) gives media and technology services to students, teachers, and staff in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS).

BECON helps improve learning for students across the District. The team does this by:

• Fixing and taking care of media equipment in schools.
• Helping with distance learning (online classes).
• Sharing helpful videos and lessons with classrooms.
• Giving students chances to make and share their own videos.

BECON is part of the Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs (OOC). They also work with the Marketing & Communications Center (MarComm) to help share important news and information with schools and District leaders.

The BECON building is in Davie at 6600 SW Nova Drive. BECON houses a full broadcast television studio, a multipurpose meeting room, and facilities for all BECON departments as well as the District’s print graphics department.

• Programming: Sends hundreds of learning videos to classrooms every day using TV and internet.
• School Services: Has technicians who fix and maintain media equipment in schools.
• Production Services: Helps students create shows like Shortcuts and Broward Teen News (BTN). Also creates videos for schools and runs live broadcasts of School Board meetings.
• Engineering: Keeps track of video content, adds closed captions to videos, and runs BECON’s TV channels.
• Print Graphics: Designs and prints school logos, banners, stickers, and more.

BECON’s TV and Radio Stations

BECON runs WBEC-TV 63 , a local TV station that can be seen in Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties and the WKPX-FM radio.
