The VPK application process is completed online and parents will need to upload their child's VPK certificate (for 4 year olds), birth certificate, and proof of address.

BCPS VPK/Pre-K programs are recognized for excellence, earning strong Florida VPK Provider Performance Metric ratings that reflect high-quality instruction, nurturing classroom environments, and intentional teaching practices aligned to early literacy and child development research. These ratings provide families with confidence that BCPS classrooms meet, and often exceed, state expectations.
BCPS VPK/Pre-K classrooms are led by state-certified teachers specializing in Early Childhood Education, ensuring instruction is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and grounded in best practice. All students receive free breakfast, supporting healthy starts to each school day, and offer field trips and hands-on learning experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom in meaningful, age-appropriate ways. Instruction is guided by a curriculum aligned to the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards, with a strong emphasis on social-emotional development and kindergarten readiness.

2026-2027 VPK School Year Application - Apply January 1, 2026!

STEP 1: APPLY FOR YOUR CHILD'S VPK CERTIFICATE

Step 1. Apply for your child’s VPK Certificate of Eligibility online via the State of Florida - Family Portal website. If you have already received your child’s VPK Certificate of Eligibility, please go directly to Step 2.

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR CHILD'S VPK APPLICATION

VPK Student Selection

Due to the high demand, Federal, State, and District requirements, a selection process must occur in order to ensure equity for selection in our Pre-K classes. Students are selected for enrollment in one of two ways:

VPK (Title I Supported) Selection Process – This process is used to select Broward residents that are applying for the full school day, free VPK class supported by State-funded VPK and Federally-funded Title I. It involves using multiple, education-related, objective criteria for selection of students. Students are selected based upon academic need using the information you provide through the BCPS – VPK/Pre-K Portal online application. Priority is given to students living within the school’s attendance boundary.

VPK/Pre-K (Tuition Supported) Process – This process is used to select students that are applying for the full or half-day, VPK/Pre-K (Tuition Supported) classes offered at selected BCPS schools. There are limited seats for parents interested in a free, 3-hour, VPK-only class and seats for families interested in a full day, VPK/Pre-K tuition supported program. Students are selected based upon District priority and random selection. Priority is given to students living within the school’s attendance boundary. Many VPK/Pre-K classes have programs available for 3-year-old children.

2026 VPK SUMMER BRIDGE TO KINDERGARTEN APPLICATION

To apply for the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) 2026 VPK Summer Bridge to Kindergarten program, please complete the 2 steps below:

Step 1. Obtain a copy of your child’s Star Early Literacy Progress Monitoring Period 3 (PM3) Report or a letter from your child’s VPK school documenting that your child could not be assessed for PM3 for the 2025-2026 school year.

Important Information about Entering Kindergarten after Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK)
Selection for a Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program at a school does not guarantee placement for Kindergarten at the same school. If your child is selected or offered a seat in a Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) class that is not your boundary school, you must apply for and receive a reassignment in order for your child to attend Kindergarten at the same school. To learn about the reassignment process, please visit the School Choice website.
