Statewide and Districtwide Assessments
Student assessments play a crucial role in providing accurate, timely, and high-quality information about each student’s academic progress. These assessments ensure that classroom instruction remains closely aligned with both district priorities and state educational standards.
Starting with the 2022–23 school year, Florida’s statewide standardized assessments in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics have been updated to align with the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.). The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) program covers Reading assessments from VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten) through grade 10 and Mathematics assessments from VPK through grade 8. These FAST assessments are administered three times per year as progress monitoring tools to track student growth throughout the school year.
In addition to the FAST assessments, B.E.S.T. assessments include grades 4 through 10 Writing assessments and end-of-course (EOC) exams in Algebra 1 and Geometry, which are not part of the FAST progress monitoring program but remain critical components of student evaluation.
Other statewide assessments include the Florida Standards Alternate Assessment (FSAA) for students with significant cognitive disabilities, ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 for English Language Learners, and the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), which provides a national measure of student achievement.
