Upcoming Statewide and District Assessments

Statewide and Districtwide Assessments

Student assessments are important tools that help teachers and schools understand how your child is progressing academically. These tests provide timely and accurate information to ensure that classroom instruction supports both local school goals and Florida’s educational standards.

What’s New in Florida?

Starting in the 2022–23 school year, Florida updated its statewide tests in Reading, Writing, and Math to better reflect the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards. These changes help make sure your child is learning the skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond.

What is FAST?

The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) is a key part of this new system. FAST Reading and Math assessments are given three times a year to students in:

  • Reading: Grade 3 through Grade 10

  • Math: Grade 3 through Grade 8

These tests are designed to track your child’s progress over the school year, helping teachers adjust instruction to meet each student’s needs.

What Other Tests Are Included?

In addition to FAST, your child may also take:

  • B.E.S.T. Writing Assessments: Grades 4–10

  • End-of-Course (EOC) Exams: In Algebra 1 and Geometry (important for graduation requirements)

These assessments are not part of FAST, but they are still essential for measuring student learning and readiness for future coursework.

Other Statewide Assessments

Florida also offers:

  • FSAA: For students with significant cognitive disabilities

  • ACCESS for ELLs 2.0: For English Language Learners

  • NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress): A national test that helps compare how students in Florida are doing compared to others across the country
