School Medicaid Program

Medicaid is a collaborative program between the  federal and state governments that provides individuals with limited income and resources access to essential healthcare services. Within the educational setting, Medicaid uses a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), to authorize and deliver medically necessary services in the school environment.

To support schools in accurately documenting and providing Medicaid compliant services, while maximizing access to allowable Medicaid reimbursements.

Broward County Public Schools participates in the Medicaid Certified School Match Program, also  known as the Fee-for-Service (FFS) Program. This program allows the district to receive reimbursement for specific services outlined in a student’s IEP.

To qualify , students must be eligible for both Medicaid and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  Services are reimbursable only if the district has written Medicaid parental consent and if the student is Medicaid eligible at the time when services are provided.

Reimbursable Services May Include:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Behavioral Health Services (including psychology, social work, and mental health counseling)
  • Nursing Services
  • Transportation

The funds received through this program are allocated to support and enhance student services both at your child's school and within the district.
