Human Resources Support Services (HRSS)

The HR Support Services Department is responsible for maintaining official District Employee Personnel files, which include key employment documents such as applications, licenses, contracts, evaluations, and records of employment changes. All records are handled in compliance with relevant Florida Statutes and School Board Policies to ensure legal and policy adherence.

Supervisors are required to complete and submit an annual evaluation for every permanent employee using the correct evaluation form, with all evaluations stored in the employee’s official personnel file by HR Support Services. Evaluations must follow specific guidelines regarding signatures, formatting, and distribution to ensure compliance.

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) uses ExperianVerify to manage employment and income verification requests, offering both phone and written options to meet various verification needs. While most verifications are handled through ExperianVerify, certain cases must be processed directly through BCPS HR Support Services.

Employees can update their personal information—such as name or address—by submitting the appropriate forms, with processes varying based on employment status and timing. Additionally, newly hired employees who qualify for confidential status may submit exemption forms to protect their personal information from public disclosure.

Under Florida Public Records Law, most Broward County Public Schools personnel records are public and may be inspected upon request, with exemptions applying to select employees based on job duties or personal relationships. Fees may apply for record preparation and copies, and Charter School personnel files must be obtained directly from the Charter School’s governing board.

Unemployment Compensation, known in Florida as Reemployment Assistance, is managed by the State of Florida and provides financial support to eligible individuals who are unemployed through no fault of their own. Reconnect is Florida's Reemployment Assistance claims system used by claimants, employers, and third-party administrators.

Claims can be filed directly through the state's portal, and suspected fraud can also be reported via the appropriate channels.

The BENCOR 401(a) FICA Alternative Plan is a mandatory, pre-tax retirement savings program for part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees of Broward County Public Schools who are not eligible for the Florida Retirement System, offering an alternative to Social Security with individual investment options and full account ownership upon separation or retirement.

This form is used to verify non-teaching related work experience for candidates applying to Broward County Public Schools, in accordance with the Teacher’s Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, to determine eligibility for up to 13 years of combined experience credit toward salary placement.

This form is used by candidates applying for instructional positions with Broward County Public Schools to verify previous teaching experience, which may qualify for up to 13 years of combined work credit toward salary placement under the Teacher’s Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement.

Each school or department keeps its own internal employee file for day-to-day use, while the official personnel file is maintained by the District’s Employment Services Department (formerly Personnel Records), following state rules on records and confidentiality.

This program allows eligible employees with good or perfect attendance to buy back a portion of their unused sick leave. Eligibility for the Sick Leave Buy Back program is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement or meet and confer group.
