Student Support Instructional Specialists (SSIS)

Student Support Instructional Specialists (SSIS) work in schools to help spot early signs of mental health needs in students. They connect students to mental health staff and act as trusted adults on campus. SSIS are visible throughout the school day to build strong relationships and support students who may be struggling. They work with school mental health teams to help improve student attendance, behavior, and overall well-being. They also help create a positive mental health environment through activities like Wellness Clubs and Mental Health Bulletin Boards that raise awareness and promote mental wellness.

Trusted Adult Initiative

Trusted Adult Initiative: The SSIS are responsible for the Trusted Adult initiative at their campuses which helps students know that there are safe, caring adults at school they can turn to when they need help. The initiative encourages students to build strong, positive connections so they feel supported and never have to face problems alone. Everyone deserves someone to talk to—and this campaign makes sure every student knows who that person is at school.

Mental Health Wellness Events

Wellness Clubs

Wellness Clubs at school give students a safe place to talk about their feelings, learn how to handle stress, and support each other. Led by the SSIS, these clubs teach skills like self-care, kindness, and how to ask for help. Students can participate in fun activities, make new friends, and learn that it's okay to "Be Kind to your Mind". The goal is to help everyone feel heard, understood, and strong—inside and out.

Mental Health Bulletin Boards

The SSIS team creates new Mental Health bulletin boards each month to share helpful tips, positive messages, and fun ways to take care of your mind and emotions. These boards are colorful, easy to read, and give students ideas on how to stay calm, be kind, and get support when they need it. Each month has a new theme to keep things fresh and interesting for everyone!
