Our Schools

Suicide Prevention

The Suicide Prevention Program uses special lessons for elementary, middle, and high school students to teach important emotional and life skills. These lessons help students understand their own feelings and how to support a friend who may be struggling. Suicide Prevention Coordinators are assigned to schools by area—North, Central, and South. They support all schools by training mental health staff, helping with Suicide Risk Assessments (SRA), answering questions about the Baker Act (involuntary exams), and working with other mental health teams.

PREVENTING YOUTH SUICIDE: TIPS FOR PARENTS AND EDUCATORS

Suicide is preventable. Youth who are contemplating suicide frequently give warning signs. Do not be afraid to ask about suicidal thoughts. Never take warning signs lightly or promise to keep them secret.
