BCPS Capitol Days

BCPS Capitol Days is a civic engagement program organized by Broward County Public Schools to give high school students a firsthand experience with Florida’s legislative process.

Held in Tallahassee during the state legislative session, the event includes tours of the Capitol, House and Senate chambers, and meetings with lawmakers to discuss BCPS education priorities.

Students participate in advocacy activities, observe committee sessions, and engage in leadership development exercises, making the program a unique opportunity to learn how government works and to shape policies that impact their schools and communities.

2026 EXPERIENCE

BCPS Capitol Days 2026 gave students a dynamic, hands‑on look at Florida’s legislative process.

During this experience in Tallahassee, students toured the Capitol, met with lawmakers, attended committee hearings, and learned how public policy is shaped.

They explored key issues affecting education, shared their perspectives with elected officials, and gained valuable skills in advocacy, leadership, and civic engagement.

The program also included visits to historic sites and college campuses, offering students a deeper understanding of government, history, and future academic pathways.

Student Testimony

A Transformative Student Journey

BCPS Capitol Days is more than a trip to Tallahassee—it’s an immersive experience that places students at the heart of Florida’s legislative process.

From the moment they step into the Capitol, students transition from observers to active participants in policy-making.

For students, each testimony they deliver is a chance to share their personal story and advocate for issues that matter most to their peers, such as mental health resources, school safety, and equitable funding. Speaking directly to legislators gives students a sense of empowerment and responsibility, showing them that their voices can influence real change.
