BRINGING GOVERNMENT TOGETHER FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

The Office of Governmental Affairs serves as the District’s primary liaison to federal, state, county, and local governmental entities, including Broward County’s 31 municipalities. The office advances the District’s priorities by fostering strong intergovernmental relationships, coordinating strategic outreach, and supporting collaborative efforts that benefit Broward County Public Schools.

School engagement support

The Office of Governmental Affairs works with schools, District leadership, and elected officials to coordinate meaningful engagement opportunities. This includes facilitating school visits, leadership meetings, special events, recognitions, and selected school-based initiatives. The office also assists with information requests and coordinates with the Broward County Supervisor of Elections regarding the use of District facilities as polling locations during elections.

elected officials and dignitary visits to schools

Broward County Public Schools welcomes visits to our schools by elected officials and other dignitaries in support of transparency, community engagement, and strong partnerships that benefit students and schools. Visits should be conducted in a manner that protects student safety, preserves instructional time, and follows District procedures. Elected officials are welcome to visit any BCPS public school in their official capacity, regardless of the legislative district they represent. While advance notice is not required, it is strongly encouraged so school staff can coordinate logistics, follow campus safety procedures, and minimize disruption to the learning environment.

To ensure a smooth and compliant visit, please note the following guidelines: All visitors must present valid photo identification and enter through the school’s designated Single Point of Entry, signing in at the front office. In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), photographing students’ faces is prohibited unless parental consent has been obtained. Schools will accommodate designated parking for visiting officials, upon availibility.

2026 local government meetings

The Legislative Affairs team monitors Broward County and municipal government meetings each week, reviewing commission and council agendas for items that may affect Broward County Public Schools, including ordinances, resolutions, land use matters, budget actions, and policy proposals.

Relevant items are analyzed for potential operational, financial, and educational impact and, when needed, coordinated with appropriate District departments. Key findings are compiled into a Weekly Local Government Agenda Report, which highlights important issues, upcoming hearings, and special recognitions to keep District leadership informed and prepared for engagement with local governments.
